Hindbrain

Hindbrain has been used to describe several structures found in the brains of vertebrates. Definitions of hindbrain vary depending on when in the history of medical knowledge the definition was offered, when along the developmental process of a brain the hindbrain is being described and more generally on the purposes of the description involved.

The hindbrain has been described as including the cerebellum, or all of the structures that develop from the rhombencephalon of an embriotic brain, including the metancephalon , mesencephalon, myelencephalon , fourth ventricle and cerebellum.
