Papilla

A papilla (plural: papillae) can be:

1. A small projection, such as a nipplelike projection on the skin, at the base of a hair or the root of a feather; the base of a new tooth.
2. Any of the small projections on the top of the tongue, in particular vallate and fungiform papillae, which contain taste buds.
3. A pimple or blister.
